Reading Culture Live Poetry Competition

Reading Culture Live is delighted to announce a poetry competition for all schools and young people in the Reading area.

Although 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, there have been some amazing examples of our local communities coming together and helping each other, so we’re celebrating these acts of kindness by making community and togetherness the theme for the competition.

Be inspired by your community, family, friends, strangers or even your next door neighbour’s pet and set the page alight with a limerick, haiku, sonnet or anything that your heart may desire.

There will be three age categories: 7 and under, 8 to 11, and 12 and over.

The writers of the best poems will be invited to read them for an event during the Digital Advent Calendar in December. This will not be a live event but rather a pre-recorded film streamed on https://www.readingculturelive.co.uk/

To enter, please submit a poem to poetry@livingreading.co.uk including the following details:

Name, age and school of writer
Name and contact details of a member of staff / coordinator in the school

Please note that:
Personal names and any association with schools will only be used internally for the purposes of the competition or in the film for the winners by prior agreement
Any children or young people being filmed will need parental consent to appear
If this is not forthcoming we can arrange to have any winning entries read out by someone else as we don’t want anyone to lose out.

Closing date:  5pm on Friday 6th November
