Digital Advent Calendar – Door 20: Reading’s Christmas Choral Concert
We’ve brought special performances from three of Reading’s wonderful choirs and choral groups together into one mini-choral concert. Each has their own chosen charity.
Reading Phoenix Choir
This video montage was created by members of Reading Phoenix Choir as we prepare for Christmas 2020. Each video was filmed during lockdown #2 in November 2020 and gives an insight into how our members are preparing for their Christmas this year. The videos are accompanied by our new track, John Rutter’s ‘Rise up Shepherd and Follow’, which was recorded in February 2020. This will be released on all good music platforms on 24th December 2020.
Age UK Reading is our chosen charity. It is an independent local charity that supports older people in the community and is part of the Age UK federation. We have been working in partnership with them since 2019 and were due to run another fundraising event for them in Spring 2020 which was cancelled due to the pandemic. We are painfully aware of the support older people in the community currently need and want to help Age UK to provide their vital services.

Thames Valley Chorus
2020 has almost gone, and so have all our concerts, rehearsals and social events. But we had fun making this video, and we hope it puts a smile on your face. It will give us a permanent reminder of video calls and social distancing that sums up this crazy year. Here’s to a better 2021.
We normally raise money at Christmas for the charity Daisy’s Dream. Established in 1996, Daisy’s Dream is a professional support service which responds to the needs of children and families affected by life threatening illness.

The Sainsbury Singers
In any other year you’ll find The Sainsbury Singers performing a range of musicals in the Reading area.
To help fund our shows, each December we wrap up warm, grab our festive headgear and go carolling at local supermarkets.
As carolling is off the cards this year we wrote a song about it – and a few of us decided to record it. A Caroller’s Christmas is a nod to our favourite pastime for getting into the Christmas spirit and a love song for friends & family. We hope you enjoy it.
Our chosen charity is New Beginnings Reading. They provide support for those experiencing financial hardship and poverty in Reading. Although some services are unable to operate during the pandemic, their work continues to include running a community fridge and a weekly clothing and toiletry service. We last partnered with them in 2017.
