A very low energy use home
Tony’s House is a very low energy home with an interseasonal thermal store.
It is many people’s dream to build their own home. For me this become possible in 2008/9 and the house that I designed and built has very very low energy requirements. Indeed it would seem that all of the heat energy for the house can be provided by the sun and incidental gains from people and appliances. This has been achieved through a combination of passive solar design, extremely high levels of insulation and airtightness, mechanical heat recovery ventilation, solar capture glass with summer shading to avoid overheating and by storing excess solar energy in an interseasonal thermal store under the building.
Can the sun, people and incidental gains heat a house i.e. do we need heating systems?
